Race Pack collection (and in-person event registration) will be available at the following times:

  • Friday 27th October 2-3pm at Omokoroa Point School.
  • Saturday 28th October 9-10 am at Western Ave Sports Grounds.

Race Packs MUST be collected prior to the event at the above times.  They can be collected by a friend or family member if you cannot make it yourself.  If this really is not possible, please email Veronica omokoroacoastalchallenge@gmail.com to arrange to collect yours between 8-8.30am on the morning of the event.

Prizegiving will be held once all participants are back – approximately 11-11.30am.  We have plenty of fantastic spot prizes so encourage everybody to stick around as you must be present to win prizes. While you wait, enjoy a coffee, smoothie or some delicious food. There's plenty of entertainment ranging from face painting, bouncy castle, massages, music from More FM who will be onsite, and more. All funds raised from our first year's event went towards building the Omokoroa Skate Path so wander over to see this extremely popular attraction which is located right beside the Western Ave Sports Grounds.

Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd male and female for the 10km Run, 5km run and Duathlon. There will also be prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd boy and girl in the 2km fun run/walk. There are no prizes for the walking events but all contestants go in the draw for spot prizes.

Full prize information can be found here.

Duathlon Event

This event comprises of two course:

Duathlon - short distance - 2km run, 10km bike, 2km run
Duathlon - long distance - 2km run, 20km bike, 5km run
Start times

9.30am Start for Duathlon Long Course cyclists.

9.33am Start for Duathlon Short Course cyclists.

You can enter the Duathlon as a Team but unfortunately we cannot time the splits - you will get one overall time.

Cycle Route is all on road - helmets MUST be worn.

There are several good sized hills so make sure you get in some hill training prior to the event.  The Long Course cycle is 2x laps of the 10km course and the 5km run route is the same as for the 5km run event (see that map for details).

Please note that we are not closing the roads for this event therefore all entrants must have a good knowledge of the road rules and be confident/safe biking on the road.  There are several round-abouts.   We will have marshalls out on the route and lots of signs so vehicles should be aware of you, but it is your responsibility to ride safely and within the law.

To ensure the safety of young children on our roads, the minimum age for the cycle part of the duathlon event is 10 years - under 10 year olds are able to do the run sections as part of a team.

Please note: Event course and details being finalised soon.  Maps should be used for indicative purposes only.

10km walk & run takes place as a large loop around the peninsula, incorporating our coastline, reserves and quaint residential streets, giving participants a great appreciation of Omokoroa’s beauty.  On the route you will encounter footpaths, walking tracks, sand and grass.  There are several hills so make sure you do some hill training in the lead up.

Start time

10km Walk: 8.50am

10km Run: 9.50am

Please note: Event course and details being finalised soon.  Maps should be used for indicative purposes only.

5km run/walk is around part of our scenic peninsula but equally as stunning as our 10km event.

Start time

5km Run: 9.53am

5km Walk: 9.55am

For those who prefer to walk or runners that would like a shorter distance. The route is buggy friendly.    It combines footpath and walking tracks and there are some hills so make sure you include this in your training!!

Dogs are welcome but they must be on a leash and under control at all times and please be mindful of people running past you.

Please note: Event course and details being finalised soon.  Maps should be used for indicative purposes only.

This is an event aimed at encouraging children of all ages to get involved and give it a go.  The route will be 2 laps of the playing fields (top and bottom fields).  They can run and/or walk it, and if the little ones don't make it 2x round it doesn't matter - just make sure you bring them through the finish arch to end so their time can be recorded and we know they have finished.  You are welcome to run or walk with them if you need to - but if you are also entering a later event please don't wear your race bib for this Fun Run.  The route is buggy friendly.

Start time

2km: 8.50am

Please note: Event course and details being finalised soon.  Maps should be used for indicative purposes only.

Omokoroa Sports Pavilion

The Omokoroa Sports and Recreation Society look after the current sports club rooms at the Western Ave sports grounds.

The current pavilion hosts many sports and activities from soccer, tennis, rippa rugby, athletics, mah jong, aikido, boxing to cards, boot camp, bridge... It currently has no toilet facilities, no changing facilities, no showers, no insulation and only a very small kitchen. It is not fit for the purpose of all the current or the projected future users.

With this in mind, the Society feel it is now time to upgrade the Pavilion.

A new Pavilion will be a wonderful addition to our community, as well as providing an upgrade to the facilities at Western Ave, it will provide another public meeting space, which is already stretched with our local hall (Settlers Hall) being used at capacity on a regular basis.

Supporting the Omokoroa Coastal Challenge will directly help the Omokoroa Sport and Recreational Society push this project further forward.

Find out more about the Omokoroa Sports Pavilion Project on Facebook here.

We thank you in advance for your support of our project, and wish you best of luck in the Omokoroa Coastal Challenge event.
